vista lame

Vista is lame

I wanted to try it but with 64 bit. I don't want to do a clean install. It is not supported to go from 32 bit XP to 64 bit Upgrade. After all this wait for a beta and all the time to do the download this is the lame mess I get. WOW!
I
guess I will try the 32 bit to learn the interface but I am NOT a happy camper.

I realize completely what you are thinking but that is what I want to do. I keep an image file and another machine. This would be the REAL test. When the retail version comes out I will upgrade, NOT BEFORE. If yo cannot understand my reason , so be it.

The architecture of the operating system does not allow Vista x64 to upgrade from XP x86, it would cause a whole lot of conflicts with existing 32 bit programs and registry issues that would just be a waste of time. Look at the amount of problems and XP x86 to Vista x86 upgrade is causing, seriously now, imagine a XP x86 upgrade to Vista x64. Vista does not even allow Vista x86 to Vista x64 upgrades. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Does that mean that my 32 bit programs will not run in Vista 64? If so, I guess it will be a LONG time before I go t that since I have MANY applications and most will not be 64 bit for a LONG time. I do not understand why it would not support both but that is what yo seem to imply?
I really have no time for this for about a month as I will be in the Mountains and Deserts of New Mexico from Jun 20 to Jul 12 so I won't get started now. That will be a MUCH nicer thing anyhow.
Does anyone know why there are usenet froups at the microsoft public server but they have no access to the messages? The other public groups work fine with my newsreader. It would be a lot easier that way. I suppose they would not have control then, oh well!

You can install and run 32bit programs in 64bit Vista. They will not install if they have 16bit installers though.

So much for Vista. I guess I will wait until I get a new computer and things are more stable. So many programs are not supported. What a mess. So much hardware is not supported. What a mess.
Partition
Magic.
I don't know how many of these will work with new programs.
Real Audio does not work either.
Maybe a clean install on a separate partition just to learn the interface might be wroth it, doubt it though.

Isn't that the whole point of testing a beta? To find the problems?

Well, yes but I cannot test what I cannot run. They know this stuff does not work, the compatibility check told me so. They obviously are a long way from supporting a reasonable set of hardware. -- Creed en las obras, no en las palabras W0MN Gil Rochester, MN

Your list included "RealPlayer, Partition Magic and AVG." That isn't hardware. That is software. And if the software companies don't want to write code for Vista, how exactly is that Microsoft's problem? As for your video card, it is the responsibility of the hardware manufacturer to supply you with the correct driver for the equipment they sold you; again, how is this an issue for MSFT?

I discovered that and I wonder if need to have all the applications you need installed on Windows XP and then do an upgrade? I have not been able to test that since my operating system is on a raid drive. (Vista can't find it until you install the drivers and then it is too late)

You cannot upgrade XP to Vista 64.

You'll never convince the CDO posting noob.

Not everyone shares your negative attitude about change. I had one problem. My tired old worn out well used sound card. I see creative (a hardware company) has some drivers for vista and more to follow. I thought it was the best ever. I am looking forward to the full version. Thanks Microsoft, your efforts are much appreciated by most enthusiasts... Maybe its time for someone to get off moms PC and upgrade? Just maybe? Comments, suggestions welcome… AMD 64 3000, MSI k8t Neo,1.5 gig RAM, WD Raptor SATA 74G HD, eVGA 6800 GT, SB live value, Vista beta 2 64 bit/XP Pro 64 bit... New soundcard en route Thank you, TC

I wasn't trying to upgrade to Vista 64, I am still happy with my AMD Barton

Yep - nice CPU - 333 or 400 MHz? 400 MHz here.
Joe

It is really a Barton 2500 333 MHz but it has been running at 400 MHz since day 1 without a core voltage increase . My Computer says 3200+ and that is good enough for me. :-)
